These Backdrop-approved Sides Will Spice Up Your Thanksgiving

It’s time to spice up your Thanksgiving meal! Here are a few Backdrop original sides that are sure to be crowd pleasers.
Buckwheat Pumpkin Bread
Makes: 12 Servings 
Total Time: About 2 hours
Ingredients:
- ¾ cup vegetable oil 
- 1 cup sugar 
- 2 eggs 
- 1 cup canned pumpkin 
- 1 ⅔ cups buckwheat flour 
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder 
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon 
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg 
- ¾ teaspoon salt 
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda 
- ⅓ cup water 
Directions:
- Combine oil and sugar together 
- Beat eggs and mix thoroughly with pumpkin; add to oil and sugar 
- Mix together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and salt with the pumpkin 
- Mix baking soda and water together in a separate bowl 
- Combine with the pumpkin mixture and mix well 
- Pour into a greased 9” x 5” loaf pan 
- Bake at 350°F for 1 hour 
- Allow at least 30 minutes to cool 
Cinnamon Applesauce
Makes: 6 Servings
Total Time: About 1 hour
Ingredients:
- 3 large granny smith apples 
- 3 large gala apples 
- 3 tablespoons water 
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice 
- ¾ cup sugar 
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 
- ¼ ground cloves 
- ½ teaspoon almond extract 
- ½ tablespoon honey 
Directions:
- Peel, core and finely dice apples 
- Add all ingredients to a large saucepan 
- Bring to a boil 
- Reduce heat and cover with lid 
- Simmer for 20 minutes or until apples begin to fall apart 
- Remove from heat and mash to desired consistency 
- Serve hot or cold. Freezes well.
